We are a local business with a reputation for delivering a safety-driven, high quality of work. This derives from our relationships with the largest ground’s maintenance companies in the UK. We strive to complete all work in a punctual manner while making sure the best arboriculture practices are adhered to. We pride ourselves on the standards of our training that the staff received continuously throughout the year. The work ethic, standards of work and compliance to H&S come from the top.
The Beginning:
Stewart Leddington started SGL forestry 15 years ago when he realised there was a gap in the market for a local business to help the largest firms deliver their workload. He has since grown SGL to have over a dozen staff including a management team who make sure the company is always approachable and contactable something that he knows isn’t always the case with others. People use SGL as we don’t let them down, we have a wealth of knowledge and the ability to deliver on large projects as well as domestic jobs that the company was founded on. SGL’s values are built on honesty, reliability, cost-effectiveness and putting our clients at the heart of everything we do.
Training:
Here at SGL we promote training as much as safety. This always allows the teams to be up to date with the newest techniques and best practises. Not only does this make the quality of the project better but again makes it the safest and more cost-effective to the client.
The team all have first aid qualifications, relevant Lantra, NPTC and in-house training on all machinery and power tools. This gives us a plethora of skill within each team and most challenges on-site can be overcome by any member of staff.
The Management Team:
Stewart has 2 managers in place to ensure the company is as efficient and as well trained as the staff they look after. Stewart himself is the embodiment of this and holds all the qualifications the ground team have and more. He leads from the front and that filters down throughout the other management team.
Among the other managers, they hold higher-level horticultural qualifications, historical garden certificates, practical in both Arb and GM tickets and have over 30 years experience in this sector. They are both continually being trained to help promote the SGL ethos that knowledge should never stop growing.
SGL Forestry have been a key partner of our business since we formed in 2010; their staff work to high professional standards and can be relied upon to deliver any forestry or arboricultural based work. Stewart has a strong focus on safety and always ensures his men are competent for the work we require them to undertake.

Wonderful service, highly recommended. SGL Forestry were recommended to me as efficient & trustworthy when I needed 2 trees removed from my mother’s garden. Two polite & hardworking men made short work of the two trees - one of which was HUGE! I didn’t want it all removed as I wanted the wood for my own fire, so I asked them to leave it in the garden. When I returned there were two large, neat piles of big & small branches that had been cut into manageable chunks, stacked neatly out of the way where they could season without being obstructive. More than I was expecting, very helpful. Garden looked great. A very fair price, a very professional & tidy job, & nice people too. Thank you SGL services!
